We’re in similar territory here to back in Part 5 of this jacket series where we discussed What Price Glory. While the concept behind today’s vendor is different to WPG – here it’s very much about costuming rather than military re-enactment – the Indy jackets on offer are a similar concept.
That is to say, these are jackets made in a certain style, with certain measurements, made from a certain leather… and that’s it. This is true off-the-rack (OTR) stuff which isn’t always the best if you have a particular body type that needs a more custom fit, but can help to keep the pricing down.
At the time of publication, pre-orders are up for a US$299 Raiders style jacket made from what is simply called, “specially tanned, soft lambskin leather” in the blurb, but which looks very much like a “washed lambskin” to my eyes. It’s certainly something a little more exotic than plain lambskin. Check it out.
Over time, Todd’s Costumes have made a number of different Indy jackets under their ‘Coyle’s’ brand (Todd’s Costumes is owned by Todd Coyle), and I’ve seen good things said about them, on the whole. As this latest effort is still under pre-order, however, I have no feedback on what people think of it.
One thing to consider when it comes to this jacket is that, while it’s OTR, it’s nearly twice what you can buy an OTR jacket for at WPG. When you’re spending US$300, you’re only $14 short of a Wested jacket in washed lambskin… and the Wested jacket is made in the UK and has the Wested provenance.
So, a few things to weigh up. You might be buying multiple items from Todd’s and it just makes sense to get the jacket too… or you might be based in the US and dealing with a US vendor makes sense… you might have bought from Todd’s in the past. Who knows? Just another Indy jacket to consider, folks!
